About 15-20 minutes unless the medical history is complicated expect it to take longer.
Yes it is. You will be asked to complete the test with and without your glasses/contact lenses. Please bring a container to place your lenses in if you wear contact lenses.
Of course, you will receive an automatic email with receipt alongside your appointment confirmation email.
Yes please bring the following
- D4 Medical form which came in the post. You can also download it here
- Driving licence or passport
- Driving glasses and optical prescription
- A list of the medication you are taking if so
If you have chronic conditions, please bring any relevant hospital letters.
For Group 2 entitlements you must have a visual acuity of at least 6/7.5 in the better eye with or without glasses or contact lenses.
If glasses a corrective power of not greater than plus 8 (+8) dioptres in any meridian.
You will be asked the questions as listed on the D4 form.
The doctor will only sign you off as medically fit if they are satisfied that you meet the requirements.
If you have a complex medical history it is often easier to get your own GP to conduct the Driver Medical and complete the D4 forms.
As a rough guide, you should consult your own GP if have a history of any of the following:
- Uncontrolled double vision symptoms
- Visual field disturbance
- Glare intolerance
- Complex Diabetes mellitus
- Neurological disorders
- Psychiatric illness
- Certain cardiac conditions
- Recent substance misuse
- Sleep disorders
- Any other conditions likely to affect the safe driving of a Large Goods Vehicle
You have within 4 months of your medical to submit to DVLA.
We will send the paperwork to the DVLA by tracked delivery which is included.
Please note this does not mean you must pass your HGV/PCV theory or practical driving test within 4 months.
